This chart is based on a medium-speed natural surface, which is typical of many greens at clubs throughout the Americas.
The numbers on the chart represent the line of travel within your lane:
10 represents the outside line of your lane.
0 represents the jack line.
10 also represents the out-of-bounds line for your lane.
20 represents the jack line for the neighboring lane.
When selecting a bowl, consider several factors:
Lead
The Dreamline XG is a narrow-biased bowl, while the Tiger II has a medium bias. Both are very good choices for lead players.
Vice
The Tiger II and Tiger are both strong options for vice players. They provide the ability to draw consistently while also allowing the bowler to move around front bowls or blockers when needed.
Skip
The Tiger II, Tiger, and Classic are all commonly used by skips. The Tiger and Classic are best suited for experienced bowlers who want more movement around bowls and the ability to sit on or reach the jack behind blockers.
Natural greens
Natural surfaces are generally slower and bowls will not bend as much. Because of this, the Dreamline XG may not be the best choice for many natural greens.
Artificial greens
Artificial surfaces are usually faster and bowls will bend more. On these greens, the Dreamline XG and Tiger II are often preferred choices.
Lastly, When you bowl is the grass wet (morning, evening or rain)
The first several ends your bowls will be straighter than the finishing ends. Grass drying out and people walking on the lanes will make your bowls wider toward the end of your game.
